The Spring 2020 History Intern at Ford’s Theatre will help fulfill the Ford’s Theatre mission, to celebrate the legacy of President Abraham Lincoln and explore the American experience through theatre and education. This Internship will combine taking part in new initiatives while gaining experience in maintaining and continuing to improve extant programs. The Intern will take part in all three major pillars of Ford’s Theatre’s education programs: Museum Learning, Arts Learning, and Interpretive Resources. The Intern will join Ford’s Theatre at an exciting time, as we reimagine the on-site visitor experience and continue building resources for off-site visitors.

Projects might be customized to the Intern’s interests and career goals and could include the following activities under close supervision or learning while working alongside the Ford’s Theatre education staff:

  • Taking part in planning for a new on-site core exhibition on the Lincoln assassination, its motives and impact, and Ford’s Theatre site history. This may include attending planning meetings, researching content, prototyping ideas, and formative evaluation
  • Conducting evaluation on a new on-site experience of student groups through distribution of historic figure cards, similar to those used at institutions like the Holocaust Museum and Whitney Plantation.
  • Researching and preparing online historical content for Ford’s Theatre’s award-winning Remembering Lincoln digital collection, including finding primary sources, enhancing item descriptions, and creating primary source sets for teachers
  • Creating classroom materials for teachers who bring their students to attend performances at Ford’s Theatre
  • Assisting with tours of Ford’s Theatre for local K-12 school groups
  • Taking part in student theatrical matinee field trips
  • Conducting outreach to schools for future collaborations
  • Learning Tessitura customer management system
