We honor Lincoln’s love of the performing arts by producing theatre that captivates and entertains.

Experience a live performance in a historic theatre like no other. Join us for an American musical, a classic play, a history-based drama or a dynamic world premiere.

Since its reopening in 1968, Ford’s Theatre has produced plays and musicals celebrating the legacy of Abraham Lincoln and exploring the American experience. With commissions like The Guard and Lincoln-based premieres The Heavens Are Hung in Black and Necessary Sacrifices, Ford’s Theatre is making its mark on American theatre.

“Some think I do wrong to go to the opera and the theatre; but it rests me. I love to be alone, and yet to be with the people.”

Educational Impact

Students at Ford’s Theatre

Last year, Ford’s Theatre Society provided free tickets to more than 1,500 local students and welcomed nearly 5,000 students from the D.C. area to come see a performance on our historic stage. Donate today to help us continue to provide free theatre to more students.
