Video: Conversation with “Come From Away” Director Christopher Ashley

What would you do if 6,579 strangers landed on your doorstep? The new musical, Come From Away, explores just that!

Opening at Ford’s Theatre in September 2016, Come From Away is the true story of how on September 11, 2001, 38 planes were stranded in a remote town in Newfoundland. The locals opened their hearts and homes, hosting an international community of strangers for a week—spurring unexpected camaraderie in extraordinary circumstances.

Written by Canadians Irene Sankoff and David Hein, this is the stunning production from Tony-nominated director Christopher Ashley (Memphis) that the Los Angeles Times calls “an affecting and stirring new musical.”

We sat down with Christopher Ashley this spring to talk about the remarkable people and circumstances on which Come From Away is based. Watch the video below to hear more about the show.
