Casting: Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Will Ford’s Theatre hold New York City auditions? If so, when will they be held? Who is Ford’s Theatre’s New York City Casting Director?
A: Ford's Theatre will hold auditions in New York City each season. New York City audition dates and a New York City Casting Director will be announced in conjunction with the posting of New York City casting notices. Unless otherwise noted, Equity Membership Candidates (EMC) and Non-Equity actors are seen only when no Equity Member is auditioning or waiting to audition at open auditions. EMCs will be seen before Non-Equity auditioners. Ford’s Theatre primarily casts actors based in the Washington, DC/Baltimore area.
Q: Does Ford’s Theatre accept auditions by tape?
A: Yes, please send us a link(s) via email to view your audition by tape either through Vimeo, with or without a password, or as an unlisted YouTube video.
- Please include the phrase “Audition by Tape”, your full name, union status and whether you are interested in being considered for the entire season or a specific production(s) in the subject line of your email. For Example: Audition by Tape – First Last – AEA – Season
Q: If I am an AEA member, may I schedule an appointment prior to the day of a local Equity Principal Audition (EPA) itself?
A: Ford’s Theatre’s local EPAs are not arranged by prior appointment, but on a first-come, first-served basis. That is, AEA members are seen at Ford’s EPAs in the order in which they arrive on the day of the EPA itself and schedule an appointment in person to be seen that day.
Q: Are EMC and Non-Equity actors permitted to audition at Ford’s Theatre’s local EPAs?
A: Unless otherwise noted, Equity Membership Candidates (EMC) and Non-Equity actors are seen only when no Equity Member is auditioning or waiting to audition. EMCs will be seen before Non-Equity auditioners at open auditions. EMC and Non-Equity actors should arrive at the EPA location and sign up in person for a time to audition – first come, first served. EMC actors should bring their EMC card to the audition to verify their EMC status.
Q: Does Ford’s Theatre hold general auditions for EMC and Non-Equity Members?
A: Ford’s Theatre does not hold general auditions for EMC and Non-Equity Members.
Q: When will auditions be held for the Youth Company of A Christmas Carol?
A: Non-Equity youth actors, ages 6 to 13, may audition for the Youth Company of A Christmas Carol in the fall directly preceding the production of A Christmas Carol each year. Detailed information for these auditions will be posted annually on our website prior to these auditions.
Q: When will other season specific audition information pertaining to youth actors be posted?
A: Other information regarding auditions for youth actors will be posted seasonally.
