Washington, D.C. – Ford’s Theatre Society presents a series of free readings and book signings with Lincoln historians Allen Guelzo, Catherine Clinton and James Swanson in early 2010. These events are offered as part of the 4 p.m. timed-entry schedule for Ford’s Theatre (4 p.m. Museum entry; 4:30 p.m. theatre entry; 4:45 p.m. author discussion; 5:30 p.m. book signing in Ford’s Theatre Lobby).

Allen Guelzo, Director of the Civil War Era Studies program at Gettysburg College, will read excerpts from Lincoln and Douglas: The Debates that Defined America on Wednesday, February 3. Guelzo’s book addresses the significance of the seven senatorial debates that propelled the issue of slavery onto the national stage and laid the foundation for a new era in American history.

Catherine Clinton takes the Ford’s Theatre stage on Tuesday, April 6, for a discussion of her book Mrs. Lincoln: A Life. An intimate portrait of the remarkable life of Mary Todd Lincoln, Clinton’s book thoughtfully addresses the misfortunes of Mary Lincoln: the horror of the American Civil War, the deaths of three children, her husband’s tragic assassination and the persistent media scrutiny that contributed to her mental decline.
